Advocacy Depot Advocating for School-Based SLPs:
    How You Can Help

Beyond advocating for your child's needs, if you would like to better the "system" for future children with apraxia, and for the speech therapists working in these difficult conditions, write letters to your state's leaders informing them of the issue and how it has affected your child (see Sample Letter). "CC" your school's superintendent and special education department director, local teacher's union, state education agency director, and the state's speech language hearing association.

Find your State's Leaders (congressmen and governor):
Find your State's Local Teachers' Unions: American Federation of Teachers' Links to State and Local Teachers' Unions

Find your State's Education Agency: United States Department of Education

    Find your State's Speech-Language-Hearing Association

    A few tips:
    • spell check your document!
    • keep it brief
