Complementary Therapies There have been many articles in the media recently about the benefits of supplementing your diet with Essential Fatty Acids. Some children with speech delays and disorders benefit from EFA supplementation. There are many ways to increase the amount of EFA's in you or your child's diet. One way is to increase the amount of fish you eat. However, due to concerns of mercury, you should be aware of the types of fish you or your child consume. Try to stick to fish that is "low on the food chain" like sardines vs. swordfish or shark. Mercury adheres to the muscle of the fish-and mercury can only adhere to protein. For this reason, fish oil does not contain mercury. However, fish oil can be rancid, so be sure you purchase EFA's from reputable companies that will verify their products' purity in writing.
